JSS has one of the lowest priced pharmacies in the region. We utilize essential and generic drugs, promote rational prescription of medicine, and dramatically lower costs of therapy for our patients.

Our pharmacy stocks nearly 250 different essential medicines. Drugs are dispensed with pictorial slips for the benefit of patients who cannot read. With very few exceptions, drugs are available to patients at about 20-35% of market rates.

Procurement

The Pharmacy Window

As far as possible, we procure our drugs from LOCOST (Low Cost Standard Therapeutics), which is a non-profit trust based in Vadodara, Gujarat State. This organisation produces high quality generic medicines – about 80 drugs in all – at low prices to NGOs and social action groups working with the poor. Generic drugs that are not made by LOCOST are selected based on cost and quality and procured from reputed companies through the local market.

Drug Selection

In the development and management of our pharmacy’s inventory, all decisions are made with the intention to maximize our patients’ well-being while minimizing their costs. We limit our medicines to those that have proven clinical effectiveness and choose generic drugs with the highest value for the lowest cost. With quality always being the number one priority in procuring and prescribing medications, our rational and cost-aware approach enables us to provide effective and often life-saving treatment to thousands of individuals who otherwise would be unable to afford such care.
